FUE Hair Transplant Prices

FUE hair transplant prices in the US typically run about $5–$8 per graft, so most procedures cost roughly $5,000–$15,000 depending on size. No-shave, robotic and implanter-pen variants often cost more. Below is a price guide by graft count, plus what should be included and how to read a clinic's price list.

What do FUE hair transplants cost by graft count?

FUE (follicular unit extraction) is priced per graft at most US clinics, with typical rates around $5–$8 per graft. Here's what that looks like at common procedure sizes. The "typical quote" column reflects that many clinics discount larger cases and apply minimum fees to small ones, so real prices don't always follow the straight maths.

GraftsAt $5–$8 per graftTypical US quoteCommon use
500$2,500–$4,000Often around $4,000 (minimum fees)Temple points, scar fill
1,000$5,000–$8,000$5,000–$8,000Hairline refinement
1,500$7,500–$12,000$7,500–$11,000Receding hairline
2,000$10,000–$16,000$9,000–$13,000Hairline and front third
2,500$12,500–$20,000$11,000–$15,000Front and part of mid-scalp
3,000+$15,000–$24,000+$12,000–$15,000+Front, mid-scalp, some crown

These figures are illustrative and vary by surgeon and city. Clinics in major metros such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago often price toward the upper end.

Why do FUE prices vary for different FUE methods?

"FUE" is a family of approaches that all extract follicles one at a time. Clinics often price the variations differently:

  • Standard shaved FUE - the donor area (and sometimes recipient area) is clipped short. Usually the baseline price.
  • Motorised or manual punch FUE - differences in the extraction tool; often no price difference.
  • Robotic-assisted FUE - a robot helps select and extract grafts; often priced at the higher end due to equipment costs.
  • No-shave or partial-shave FUE - lets you hide the procedure but is much slower for the team; commonly carries a premium. See no-shave FUE.
  • Implanter pens (often marketed as DHI) - grafts placed with a loaded pen; frequently priced at or above standard FUE. Compare in DHI vs FUE.
  • Sapphire FUE - recipient sites made with sapphire blades; sometimes marketed as premium. Evidence that it improves results over steel blades in skilled hands is limited.

The tools matter less than the team. Ask what the surcharge actually buys for your case before paying for a branded variant.

Which factors move your FUE price within the range?

Two people with the same graft count can receive quotes thousands of dollars apart. The main reasons:

  • Surgeon experience and demand - established surgeons with long waiting lists typically charge more per graft
  • Surgeon involvement - whether the surgeon performs extractions and site-making personally or supervises technicians
  • Patients per day - clinics treating one patient a day have higher costs per case
  • Hair characteristics - very curly, fine or low-density donor hair can slow extraction
  • Area treated - crown work and repair of previous transplants can be priced higher
  • Location - rents and wages vary widely between US cities

A higher FUE price isn't a guarantee of a better result, and a lower one isn't proof of poor care. Use price to shortlist, then decide on evidence: healed results, clear answers and credentials such as board certification and ISHRS membership.

Finally, remember that a price per graft only makes sense next to a trustworthy graft count. Two surgeons quoting the same rate can still produce very different totals if one recommends 1,800 grafts and the other 2,600.

What should an FUE price include?

A clear FUE quote should spell out exactly what you're getting. Compare quotes against this list:

  • The planned graft count and per-graft rate - and whether you pay for grafts planned or placed
  • Local anaesthetic and any oral sedation
  • Take-home medication and aftercare products
  • Next-day check and first wash
  • Follow-up visits through 12 months
  • Any PRP sessions or other add-ons, with their separate price
  • Policy on touch-ups if growth is patchy
  • Deposit amount, balance due date and cancellation terms

Are FUE prices cheaper during promotions?

Some clinics run seasonal offers or discounts for booking dates with spare capacity, and these can be genuine savings. But treat time-pressured offers with care. A legitimate discount should still give you time to check credentials, see results and read the terms. Be wary of "special pricing" that expires the same day as your consultation, or offers that include extra grafts you weren't told you needed.

How do US FUE prices compare internationally?

LocationTypical FUE costPoints to weigh
United States$5–$8 per graft; about $5,000–$15,000Easy follow-up, US medical oversight, higher labour costs
UK / Western EuropeAbout $6,000–$12,000 per procedureSimilar standards to the US; travel costs added
TurkeyAbout $1,500–$3,500 all-inclusiveWide quality range; check who performs surgery; follow-up at a distance

Lower overseas prices can be tempting. Before booking, read our Turkey vs USA comparison for the trade-offs.

How do you read a clinic's FUE price list?

Published price lists can be helpful, but they're often simplified. When reading one:

  1. Look for the unit. Is it per graft, per hair, per session or per area?
  2. Find the small print on tiers. "From $4 per graft" may apply only above a high graft count.
  3. Check for surcharges. No-shave, robotic or crown work may be extra.
  4. Separate optional extras. PRP and supplements are often bundled into "packages".
  5. Confirm the price after assessment. A list price isn't a quote until the surgeon has examined your scalp.

Can you pay for FUE in instalments?

Yes. Many US clinics work with medical lenders or offer in-house payment plans over 24–48 months. Insurance almost never covers FUE, since it's considered cosmetic. Always check whether a 0% offer is true 0% or deferred interest. Our financing guide explains the difference.

What's the next step?

Price is just one part of choosing an FUE provider - results, surgeon involvement and aftercare matter as much. Read is FUE worth it? for the bigger picture, then request a free quote to compare FUE prices from vetted US clinics.
