How much does a Bosley hair transplant cost?
Bosley is a long-established national US hair restoration chain. Like most providers, it quotes individually after assessing your hair loss, so there isn't one sticker price we can responsibly give you. Promotions, technique and location can all change the figure, and pricing changes over time - always check current pricing directly with the company.
What we can give you is the national picture. Across the US, a hair transplant typically costs $4,000–$15,000. A quote from any established provider - chain or independent - would normally be expected to fall somewhere in that range for a standard single session. If a quote sits well outside it, ask why.
How is hair transplant pricing usually calculated?
Most US clinics use one of two models:
- Per graft - you pay a set rate for each follicular unit transplanted. Nationally that's roughly $3–$8 per graft: about $5–$8 for FUE and $3–$6 for FUT. Some clinics lower the rate as the graft count rises.
- Per session or package - a flat price for a defined procedure, sometimes with a graft range such as "up to 2,000 grafts". Useful for budgeting, but check the actual number of grafts you'll receive.
Whichever model you're quoted, convert it to an effective cost per graft so you can compare providers fairly. Our cost per graft guide shows how.
What might you pay at each stage of hair loss?
Graft needs rise as hair loss progresses, and so does cost. The figures below are rough national estimates for one session; your own numbers depend on donor density, hair calibre and the look you want.
| Hair loss pattern | Typical grafts | Estimated US cost |
|---|---|---|
| Temple recession / early hairline (Norwood 2–3) | 800–1,500 | $4,000–$8,000 |
| Receding front with some thinning (Norwood 3–4) | 1,500–2,500 | $8,000–$12,000 |
| Front and mid-scalp loss (Norwood 4–5) | 2,500–3,500 | $12,000–$15,000 |
| Extensive loss including crown (Norwood 5–6) | 3,500–4,000+ (often two sessions) | $15,000+ across sessions |

What makes one transplant quote higher than another?
Two people with similar hair loss can receive very different quotes. The usual reasons:
- Technique - FUE is more labour-intensive than FUT, so it usually costs more per graft
- Graft count - the biggest single driver of total price
- Shaving - no-shave or long-hair FUE takes longer and often costs more
- Surgeon experience - high-demand surgeons tend to charge more
- Location - big metros such as New York, Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago often sit toward the upper end
- Inclusions - medications, PRP, follow-up visits or a touch-up policy may or may not be bundled in
Does insurance cover a hair transplant?
Almost never. Health insurers treat pattern hair loss surgery as cosmetic. Rare exceptions can involve reconstruction after burns, trauma or certain medical treatments, and even then approval isn't guaranteed.
Because insurance won't help, most patients pay from savings or finance the cost. Many US clinics work with third-party medical lenders offering plans over 24–48 months. Before signing, check the APR, whether interest is deferred (and charged in full if you miss the payoff date), and any early repayment terms. Our financing guide walks through the options. Cosmetic procedures generally aren't eligible for health savings or flexible spending accounts either, so don't count on those without checking with your plan.
How do chain prices compare with other options?
The table compares typical ranges by provider type. They're general benchmarks, not quotes for any named business.
| Provider type | Typical total cost | Things to weigh |
|---|---|---|
| US national chain | Generally within $4,000–$15,000 | Brand familiarity and multiple offices; confirm who operates |
| US independent surgeon | $4,000–$15,000+ | Direct access to the surgeon; wide price spread |
| UK / Western Europe | ~$6,000–$12,000 | Travel costs; follow-up at a distance |
| Turkey package | ~$1,500–$3,500 | Big savings but variable quality and remote aftercare |

What does a sample budget look like?
To make the numbers concrete, here's how a hypothetical quote might break down for someone needing about 2,000 FUE grafts. These are illustrative national figures, not any provider's pricing:
- Grafts: 2,000 × $5 per graft = $10,000
- Pre-op blood work, if required and not included: often $100–$300
- Post-op medications and supplies: frequently included; otherwise $50–$150
- Time off work: 3–7 days, which may mean unpaid leave
- Ongoing medical therapy to protect existing hair: a recurring monthly cost that varies by medication
Adding it up shows why the headline surgical price is only part of the picture. Ask every provider for a full, itemised total before you compare.
Is the cheapest quote the best value?
Not necessarily. A low per-graft price means little if fewer grafts survive, the hairline looks unnatural, or you need repair work later. Equally, a high price doesn't guarantee a better result. Value comes from an honest graft estimate, an experienced team, a natural design, and a sensible long-term plan that protects your remaining hair with medical therapy where appropriate.
How can you get an accurate price?
Book a consultation with Bosley if you're interested, and get at least one or two independent quotes alongside it so you have something to compare. For tips on reading and comparing a quote line by line, see cost of a hair transplant at Bosley, or browse the cost hub. When you're ready, request a free quote from vetted US providers.
To make quotes comparable, ask every provider for the same details: the exact graft count (or a firm range), the technique, the per-graft or package price, what is included, how long any quoted price is valid, and the refund policy on deposits. Photos of your scalp from the front, top, crown and back, taken in good light, will help providers give a more accurate early estimate before you visit in person.

Frequently asked
At national rates of roughly $3–$8 per graft, 2,000 grafts usually costs about $8,000–$12,000 for a standard session. FUT tends toward the lower end and FUE toward the higher end.
Many US hair restoration providers offer free initial consultations, but policies change. We're not affiliated with Bosley, so check directly whether a consultation is free and whether it's with a physician.
A session takes a physician and a team of trained technicians 4–8 hours, often placing thousands of grafts by hand. Staff costs, facilities and malpractice insurance are all higher in the US than in popular medical-tourism destinations.
The surgery itself is usually a one-time cost for that area, but many people also pay for ongoing medication to protect non-transplanted hair, and some choose a second session later as hair loss progresses.
Sometimes. Clinics may offer seasonal promotions, package pricing or lower per-graft rates for larger sessions. Negotiate on inclusions and price, but never on graft count if the surgeon believes you need more.
Usually, yes. FUT typically runs about $3–$6 per graft versus $5–$8 for FUE, because extraction is faster. FUT leaves a linear donor scar, though, so the right choice depends on more than price.
Cosmetic hair transplants generally aren't deductible as medical expenses. Rare reconstructive cases may differ. Ask a qualified tax professional about your situation.
